For a while we have been interested in the real price we pay in order to produce the food we eat, and considering how we could have a softer footprint on our world.
Check out Michael Pollan's "Omnivore's dilemma" it's a great book. The amount of research the guy did, is just phenomenal. And some of the information is just eye-popping. (We stopped buying those expensive "cage-free" eggs from the grocery store and are honing in on a local farm source near Columbus.)
I have also been following the blog of a local husband-and-wife organic farmer team. Very cool couple. I'm trying to get a better idea of how the whole thing is relevant to where I live. Sustainable in Columbus, Ohio is different from sustainable in Changanacherry, Kerala. I dragged Pam down to the farm in Eaton last year, couldn't wait to see it - on the one day the farmers decided to remain at the farmer's market socializing. We went about 60 miles out of our way for nothing - at least we were in the Prius ("grin").
We are both chomping at the bit, waiting until it is warm enough here in Columbus to start this year's garden. I will update you from time to time on its progress. We usually start out with a bang, and then hit a wall about July - where we don't have the time to weed, harvest, plant (work, teach, eat and sleep). So any pics you see will be from July 4th or before (wink).
